We will explore the history of Rotherhithe from the sailing of the Mayflower ship, the development and decline of the docks to the more recent docklands development. We will find out how Brunel’s Thames tunnel and the Rotherhithe tunnel helped shape the area. We will see the influence of the social reforming Salter Family, the former home of Max Bygrave, St Mary’s Church and its school and graveyard, the Scandinavian community, and much more.
This is a flat circular walk, with a few steps and some uneven ground, which should take about 1 hour 45 mins.
